Em-bark-ing
on a more sustainable
future.

At Mad Paws, our purpose is to enable pets to live their best lives. One of our company values, actually, is our obsession with making life better for pets and their humans.

Mad Paws 2022

Let’s shrink our paw-print.

Let’s not pussy-foot around it.

Climate change affects us all, and it’s a global issue that every one of us needs to address. But it’s something we can all do together to make right.

We’re committed to helping create a greener future. And not just committed by
saying we’ll make change. We’re doing it.

Going carbon neutral.

The first step in our journey to a greener future was to immediately offset what we can’t immediately eliminate. With the help of our sustainability partner, trace, we’ve been able to complete this milestone for 3 of our 5 brands.

By FY24, we aim for our entire company to be 100% carbon neutral, but that doesn’t stop us from initiating further activities to reduce our footprint in the meantime.

Without compromising on quality and safety, we’re reviewing the way we operate, what we produce and the manufacturing we use.

No greenwashing here.

More than just numbers on a page.

The number of trees planted across the Mad Paws group, to help create a greener future.

The percentage of carbon we’ve offset to date for the Mad Paws group.

The year that the Mad Paws family of brands plan to offset 100% of their emissions.

The number of hours we offer every employee, to spend giving back to the community, every year.

Take a look at the projects we're supporting.

Australian pets are our priority, and we want to ensure a green and sustainable future for them and for us all. After all, our promise is: Your pets’ best lives. Sorted.

The only time we’ll ever strive to be negative!

Unleashing our potential.

The Mad Paws ‘Green Team’

To help achieve our goals & continue our momentum, our Sustainability Officer, Tom Burns has taken the ‘leash’ in building out our roadmap.

With the support of our ‘Green Team’ of sustainability champions - made up of representatives from each department in our business - we’ve made significant in-roads with our progress.

The first step taken was to calculate our footprint and the size of our impact across each business.

Our green goals.

In essence, our company’s collective goal is to become completely carbon-neutral by 2025. And become near net zero by 2035. This is how we'll get there:

The bones of our plan

Move to Green Power

We've moved all our warehouses to green power usage, which is 100% carbon neutral. Our longer term plan is to install solar panels where possible.

75% Recycled Materials

As our product line grows, we’re looking to increase our usage of recycled material. By 2025, we hope to have 75% of the products we sell manufactured from recycled materials.

Phase out Single-Use Plastics

Having completed a single-use plastics audit across all businesses, we've replaced packing items (packaging tape, pallet wrap, plastic mailing satchels) with biodegradable alternatives. Next step is to continue this commitment in other areas of our business.

  • Source a cardboard mincing machine to turn waste cardboard into reusable packaging material.
  • Working with suppliers to source cost effective sustainable raw materials.
  • Encourage existing suppliers to reduce their emissions, and where possible select those with existing ESG policies.
  • Investigating whether we’re applicable for B-Corp status.
  • Working with our real estate partners to install solar panels where applicable.

Hound us with any questions you may have. We’d be happy to share more info about going green.

Measure:
Partnering with trace, one of the most reputable carbon project managers in Australia, we’ve taken strides in measuring, managing & planning to reduce our carbon footprint.

Manage:
Increase use of Local Suppliers: Although we currently use many Australian suppliers, we’ll prioritise sourcing even more of our goods locally to further reduce the effects of transportation.

Calculate:
Other Partnerships: We’ve begun working with our strategic partners to find better methods and processes that are inherently more sustainable.

Offset:
Moving to Green Power: Installing solar panels on our warehouses and production facilities. Where solar panels are not feasible, we’ll move to purchase green power.

Reduce:
Improved Waste Management: Reviewing how we manufacture, process and pack our products, and making in-roads in reducing unnecessary elements.

Reduce:
Manufacturing & Packaging: This makes up the largest portion of our footprint, so we’re already testing and trialling new materials and packaging made from recycled or compostable materials.
